
Igloo’s 2019 State of the Digital Workplace Report reveals the factors that affect the digital transformation in the workplace. The survey was completed by 2,000 employees from organizations with over 250 employees.
Some main findings from this report include:
- Remote employees claimed that they have missed out on information, were excluded from meetings and struggled to gain access to important documents. 69% of employees who work remotely are dealing with challenges they would not come across working in an office.
- Junior staff work remotely much less than their more senior colleagues, yet they encounter the least challenges.
- It is evident from the survey that sensitive documents are often stored and shared via less secure methods such as instant message or email while safer methods that support watermark use are rarely used to track user access. 50% of employees admitted having used an application or software that was not approved by their organizations, and almost half of these employees claimed that these non-approved apps helped them save 2-3 hours per week.
- Although most organizations have an intranet, it is still troublesome to share information and to collaborate with colleagues within these systems, which in some cases may waste employees’ time. 43% of respondents avoided sharing a document with a coworker because it was impossible to find the document or they believed it would take too long to find.
- Company policies and Employee benefits are ranked as the most accessible resources for employees while most of them find it difficult to submit an idea or to find a product roadmap.
- Employees are more cautious about the information they share on social media channels due to the increase in social media connections in the workplace. 76% of employees said that they are connected with their coworkers on social media, but 71% of them admitted that they have not posted anything to social media due to the fear that their colleagues might see it. Facebook and Instagram are the most popular channels that employees use to connect with their coworkers.
