The Paychex 2019 Pulse of HR Survey: A Focus on Talent and Technology report underlines the contributions of HR teams to the successful outcomes of their organizations.

Some main findings of this study include:

  • Workplace productivity evaluation, employee training and development, discrimination and harassment training are among the most important goals for HR in 2019.
  • When asked to describe their role in their organization, many HR professionals used result-oriented, process-savvy and compliance-focused to explain their jobs.
  • A majority of survey respondents agreed that technology had enhanced their ability to contribute to the success of their organizations. 81% of them reported that thanks to their organization’s investment in hiring technology, they will be able to maintain or grow employee headcount as well as boost employee productivity.
  • Most HR professionals reported using technology mainly for record-keeping, time and attendance and performance management. However, more of them are adopting technology in onboarding and expense reimbursement processes.
  • Some HR team members admitted to having spent more than 20 hours each month on dealing with administrative tasks, entry data into HR systems and being up to date with relevant regulations
  • Most HR executives agreed that it’s important to offer employees with self-service options using HR technology in order to obtain corporate success.
  • Recruiting technology, workplace collaboration tools, voice recognitions, VR interfaces and chatbots are among those HR tech that were rated as being helpful to HR professionals.
  • All surveyed HR professionals claimed that they used analytics to make decisions.
  • Half of the HR teams who have increasing budgets rated technology as the field they would like to spend their extra funds on.
  • HR professionals ranked attracting talent, keeping up with regulations and tracking employees’ time as the most challenging tasks for them in 2019. Identifying and retaining high-performing candidates are still the most challenging hiring-related tasks to a lot of HR team members.
  • A majority of HR executive stated that they would be open to train and upskill candidates who might not check all the boxes as they believed upskilling will benefit their organization.
